In visit to Turkey, the President called his Libyan counterpart to leave power ” Mr Gaddafi has to leave “The repeated and systematic violence against the Libyan people is unacceptable and will be investigated and punished,” said Nicolas Sarkozy. “I think he will enter the International Criminal Court,” added the French president.” Nicolas Sarkozy had demanded Thursday night with U.S. President Barack Obama “an immediate halt to the use of force” by the Libyan authorities, and urged the EU to adopt “meaningful sanctions” against those responsible for repression in Libya.

For his part, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan talked by telephone Friday with U.S. President Barack Obama on the situation in Libya. They agreed to say that the Libyan authorities would be “held responsible” for the crackdown, according to U.S. officials. The leaders discussed “the adequate and effective means for the international community to react immediately,” said the White House in a statement.
